Hi….

Welcome to the Winning Women newsletter. We’ve had a big flux of new sign-ups recently, so if you’re reading the newsletter for the first time, I hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to know what you think…

We’ve had two very successful events in the last month (you can see the photos opposite) and are continuing to grow and expand, bringing more people for you to meet and network with. Networking’s profile is increasing all the time; we’ve seen a supplement in the Daily Post this month, so – if you’re getting the bug for a spot of networking – here are our top ten tips for making networking a success.

Hope to see you tonight at the Pan American Bar,

Best Wishes,

Have you taken on the networking message?

The networking message is getting out there… the Daily Post ran an eight page supplement on the value of networking in its weekly Business Week digest, including a section on Winning Women and interview with Esther. Wealth follows the women

Winning Women hosted a table at the exclusive Victoria Racing Club’s Racing Luncheon Manchester last week, for a special members only event.

Sue Lloyd-Williams, deputy chief executive of the Victoria Racing Club – which hosts the world’s most glamorous horse race, the Melbourne Cup – was guest speaker, telling the audience about her baptism of fire into the exclusively male world of horse racing; the subsequent success of Ladies’ Day at the festival, and its importance to the local economy, where retailers describe it as ‘bigger than Christmas’.

The lunch featured not one but two inspirational guest speakers: fellow-speaker Kim Fletcher only started her milliner’s business aged 26, as a new hobby after giving up work to have a baby. The Australian’s work is now sold around the world, from the Melbourne Cup and Dubai World Cup to Ascot.

Winning Women members took the chance to network with other female business leaders from across the North West, over a three-course meal and champagne at the eye-popping Harvey Nichols restaurant.

Working wives are wedding winners

Working women, breathe a sigh of relief, banish any guilty pangs and leave the marital home with your head held high of a morning... New research suggests that a working wife is up to 50% less likely to see her marriage fall apart, according to new research in the Journal of Family Issues.

Although the reasons for the outcome are speculation, researchers pointed out that the increased financial resources a working-wife’s income creates may provide a crucial buffer during harder economic times, concluding: ‘Wives’ economic activity… contributes to the continuing resilience of marriage as a social institution.’

Women fear risk when going it alone

Red Magazine polled 1000 women, and found that although 83% of them had thought about starting their own business, 63% cited a lack of financial support or financial risk as factors holding them back.

For those who did take the plunge, money wasn’t the main motivator… job satisfaction and independence proved bigger pulls, with satisfaction the key for more than three quarters of them. Nearly half – 42% – had said that the time just wasn’t right to go it alone, so presumably may take the plunge if circumstances change – the biggest motivating factors suggest women are recognising the advantages of running their own businesses.

Also, make sure you give the right impression, Winning Women has a boardroom for hire for those important business meetings for only £10 per hour plus vat.

As young as you feel?

The beginning of the month saw a curious and packed crowd at the Ten Years Younger with Winning Women event, as members gathered to see the close-up effects of non-invasive cosmetic surgery, in the form of botox and teeth whitening offered by the Saving Faces clinic. Two willing models stepped up to the hot seat, giving guests an instant view of the before and after effects… Tempted?
There is also a 15% Discount to Winning Women Members on production of your WW membership card.
